The advent of the computer has changed the way engineers develop the television. The quality of the picture and sound on today?s televisions has far surpassed the standard of a mere decade ago. The new Samsung HDTV line and their features are a testament to that.

Starting with the LN-s4692d, this TV has a 46-inch screen and an option called the dynamic contrast which enables the owner to adjust the screen’s back light based on the quality of light in the room.

Another option is the “S-PVA” feature which allows you to watch the screen easily no matter how you are angled in front of the TV.

Although all TV?s aspire to reach 100 percent of the color array of the National Television System Committee Standard, at 92 percent, the LN-s4692d surpasses most of the televisions in the market today which are usually around 73 percent. In this way, you are able to enjoy a highly detailed and realistic picture.

HPs5033 is another television under the new line of Samsung HDTVs. This plasma TV has a feature called the Gen-5 that addresses the issue of the glare on a screen when in a room with bright lights. With Gen-5 you can get a clear picture not matter how bright the lighting is in the room. And the HPs5033 is able to display more than five hundred and forty nine billion colors so you get a very detailed picture.

There is also an improvement to the design that should be pointed out. Unlike other TV?s where you have to move the whole thing to get to the A/V input the HPs5033 A/V input is on the side of the TV so you can disconnect and connect without the hassle.

Finally, the sound quality on this model is increased with the addition of the SRS Trusound XT. With this feature, no matter where you are in the room you get the same level of sound.

The TX-s27794 could be designed for consumers who are concerned about space. This compact 27-inch screen TV can fit many small or awkward positions in a home. And its size doesn?t take away from the sound and picture quality at all. In fact the TX-s27794 comes with the SRS HDTV system installed. This ensures you the level of sound anyone with a plasma TV has come to expect.

These are only a few of the models in the new HDTV line from Samsung. There are more to see and no doubt in the future Samsung will have a variety of models with new additions and features that will top what it has managed to do today.

Plasma televisions are based on a new technology that utilizes a unique display panel that alleviates the need for a cathode-ray picture tube. One of the major benefits of buying these televisions is that they are sized to accommodate new HDTV 16:9 aspect ratios and have a similar pixel resolution to a personal computer monitor. This provides the product the maximum picture clarity. In other words, a plasma display has an emissive flat panel display in which light is created by phosphors that are excited by a plasma discharge between two flat panels of glass. The gas discharge contains no mercury, but instead has a mixture of noble gases. One of the basic things that the plasma screen does is illuminate the tiny colored fluorescent lights to form an image. Three fluorescent lights are red, green and blue, and constitute each pixel.

Plasma is stated to be the “Fourth State of Matter”, after solid, liquid and gas. It is considered a distinct state of matter that contains a significant number of electrically charged particles. The number is sufficient to affect its electrical properties and behavior. Plasmas constitute more than 99 percent of the visible universe.

Although the prices of plasma televisions have come down recently, trade analysts predict that the prices will continue to fall just as the prices of any other electronic item. With small companies creeping into the market, competition has now become stiff. Chinese manufacturers are producing these televisions at the cheapest rate, thus taking competition to another level. Akai, Hitachi, LG, Philips, Sony and Samsung are some of the big manufacturing companies producing plasma televisions for global markets. Panasonic and Pioneer are the best-known in the industry and run neck-to-neck in reviews and manufacturing.

Pinnacle Systems, a division of Avid, has brought many great products to market. Here is another piece that will surely peak your interest. The Pinnacle PCTV High Definition USB stick. This USB powered gadget makes the recording of HD TV not only easy, but inexpensive too.

There are no subscription fees required, just internet access for programming schedules and a PC with some decent HHD space. Here’s the deal: The USB PCTV HD Pro Stick has a coaxial cable connection on one end and a USB connector at the other. If you have HDTV already you can plug directly into a PC and make that your DVR or extend storage space from your current Tivo or other DVR unit.

OR you can use the supplied HD antenna to capture ATSC reception which is a new, public and free digital broadcasting system. ATSC is available in most major metropolitan areas in the US and the Pinnacle system will pick up the signal (provided it’s clear) if not, then you may need an amplified rooftop antenna. (Go to Antennaweb.org for more info)

The software comes with your typical DVR capabilities such as record scheduling, pause, playback, rewind, replay and you can even turn your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center computer into a full featured analog or digital TV set.

Pinnacle includes some additional features like recording directly to device such as - direct to DVDR, iPod, PSP or DivX. You can also capture video from any device like VCRs, camcorders, DVD players etc. For only $129 this is definitely a serious alternative to a canned solution from DirectTV or DishNetwork.

HDTV’s are hot. Technology has improved tremendously. The technology used in HDTV’s appears to be light years ahead of the technology used in older televisions.

Not only does the technology appear to be light years ahead, but so does the price. HDTV’s can get pretty expensive. In the future the price will go down like they always do, but in the mean time I will show you how to find the best deals on HDTVs.

The easiest way to get your hands on a HDTV is to visit a local mall or electronic store. But that is not always the cheapest. If you do not live in a big city, you may need to visit one. The best deals are located in big cities.

In big cities you can find large discount stores and their main business strategy is to offer better deals than the average retail store. Since there is so much competition in big cities, you can also find stores offering price match guarantees.

This means if you find a HDTV cheaper at another store, they will sell you theirs cheaper to get your business. Some stores advertise their price match guarantees. But sometimes you have to ask.

The second way to find deals on HDTV’s is by shopping online. A lot of times you can find better a better deal online because the overhead costs are lower. They can afford to sell you a HDTV for a much lower price than an offline store. But every online store will not be cheaper than offline stores. You may need to shop around at different online stores.

Try using comparison shopping sites. They will list stores who sell HDTV’s and sort the results by price. You can easily see who is offering the best price.

But don’t just use comparison shopping sites. Some smaller online stores can’t afford to use comparison shopping sites. Perform searches using search engines and just look for the best deals. Just shop around as much as possible and you will find some good deals.

HDTV stands for high definition television. It contains images that have significantly higher details than normal televisions. Pixels in an HDTV product are usually square, smaller and are placed closer together, which results in higher visual detail.

There are a few varieties of HDTVs available, like HD flatpanel TVs, HD traditional projection TVs, and HD advanced microdisplays. HD traditional projection TVs offer larger screen sizes and lower prices, but they take up more space and are quite bulky. In addition, they have a thinner viewing angle than other forms of HDTV. The HD flat panel TV is thin and light, and can hang on a wall. Although the majority of HDTVs are HD ready and provide the widest viewing angle and the highest contrast, these are available at a higher cost. The HD advanced microdisplays offer a lightweight design and advanced technology without the expense of a flat panel HDTV. They are HD ready and provide a big viewing angle, quality contrast, and replaceable light sources.

Although the 34-inch CRT HDTV television is bulkier and bigger, its high picture resolution is one of the plausible clauses for its sale. The Sony 34-inch TV has been voted as one of the best televisions to produce filmlike resolution. The only negative in the product is that it is bulky and requires a big area to install it. Among the 43-inch plasma televisions, Pioneer has been chosen as one of the best products. The product has been categorized to have the best balance of image quality, features and ease-of-use. On the other hand, Panasonic plasma renders deeper blacks it lacks tuners, speakers and most inputs. The Pioneer has 1024 x 768 pixels of resolution, which is lower in comparison to the other rear-projection TVs, and LCD TVs.

The 45 -inch LCD HDTV LCD flat panel TVs are thin and wall-mountable, and have higher resolution. The Sharp Aquos LCD television is one of few HDTVs with 1920 x 1080 resolution, enough to display every detail of 1080i high-definition television.

HDTV televisions need special antennas to be able to catch the frequency. These televisions cannot receive the transmission from normal antennas used by any other brand of color television. Selecting the right HDTV antenna system is critical, and one should make use of a highly directional antenna designed for “Fringe Area” reception.? One objective that should be kept in mind while installing the antenna is that it should accept signals directly from the transmitting tower.

Some of the other considerations that one should keep in mind before buying the antenna is that one should check with the local homeowner?s association, seeking permission to put up an antenna on the roof or any other exterior location. One would also need to determine whether local channels are VHF, UHF, or both. This would determine the type of antenna to buy.

The owner would also need to determine whether there is a clear line of sight to the station antenna. If station antenna locations are separated by distance, they would have to install a rotor to turn the antenna to capture and optimize signal reception.

One of the most common causes of poor reception in a HDTV television is the interruption by strong signals from FM radio and TV stations. This is when the owner would need to buy an FM trap to get rid of these signals. The antenna captures the whole broadcast spectrum, which can literally overwhelm a receiver. Too high a signal would be as bad just as too little of the transmission. One would need to see that the antenna delivers the finest picture quality by the way it has been set up.

Owning a high definition off-air antenna allows a person to enjoy one?s favorite network programs in HD. The owners also enjoy an indirect benefit, in that they are not left at the mercy of the provider?s ability to display a viewable signal during a bad storm.

To take full advantage of the great number of HDTV stations you can get with your satellite system, you will want a television with a breathtaking picture and mind blowing sound. When shopping for a television today, you have many more options than just a few years ago. From several hundred dollars, to a price similar to that of a new Corvette, you can choose the television to fit your budget and lifestyle.

If you want to watch satellite programming you will need a tv that is at least HDTV ready. Your satellite service provider will supply you with an HDTV tuner. Even if you will not be watching much HDTV programming, there is still a huge benefit to watching a digital television. All HDTV and HDTV ready tv’s contain upconversion circuitry that cleans up the picture with even non HDTV signals.

If you watch a lot of movies or dvd’s, you might want to purchase a widescreen television. A widescreen tv has a 16:9 aspect ratio screen, as opposed to the traditional television screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. You can enjoy watching movies on a screen shaped like a movie theater screen, and view non digital programming in a side cropped view, or stretch the picture to varying degrees to fill the screen. All HDTV programming uses the 16:9 aspect ratio.

The least expensive option is the good old fashioned CRT (cathode ray tube) television. It has been around since 1927, and it is the least expensive option. It is built around a single picture tube, and provides excellent contrast and overall picture quality. A higher end picture tube television will actually give a smoother appearance of motion than a flat-panel tv. The primary drawbacks of tube tv’s are their immense weight (compared to newer technology), and the considerable depth of the sets themselves, both severely limiting your installation choices. Also, the largest tube television available is 36″, so if you need a larger picture, you might want to step up to flat-panel television.

LCD and Plasma screens are the two options available in flat-panel televisions. Both are incredibly thin and lightweight, and can be wall mounted if you choose to do so. An LCD (liquid crystal display) contains thousands of crystals sandwiched between two glass or plastic plates, which are acted upon by electrical current, creating images on the screen. A plasma screen consists of thousands of pixel cells filled with gases that excite phosphors, producing light, and thereby your picture.

The weight of an LCD and a plasma tv are comparable, with the LCD models being slightly lighter in the 40″ range. As the screen size approaches 60″, the weight of the LCD overtakes that of the plasma screen. The display panel tends to last longer with the LCD than with the plasma models. LCD televisions are not vulnerable to burn-in, also known as image shadowing or ghosting, like plasma screens. Burn-in is essentially burned, or worn out pixels in a plasma screen that have been damaged over a period of time and retain color information from static images like network logos, etc… Plasma tv’s tend to have more accurate color reproduction than LCD models, and are currently less expensive than a comparable LCD. While the largest LCD tv at this writing is 65″, that is likely to change quickly as the technology evolves with the latest innovations in the computer monitor industry. The largest plasma screen television currently produced is the Panasonic TH-103PZ600U103″, which boasts a massive 103″ screen, and is expected to carry a whopping retail price of about $70,000 when is hits US markets in late 2006.

Remember the old, bulky rear-projection televisions that were almost a yard deep and weighed nearly as much as a VW Bug? Todays digital big screen tv’s take up much less space, and a 60″ television can weigh under 100 lbs. Digital big screens are capable of brightness that is unmatched by the older CRT televisions, and do not suffer burn-in like the plasma tv’s. These digital big-screens also contains a consumer replaceable lamp that restores picture quality to its original brilliance. Prices for these sets are very reasonable, usually one half to two thirds the price of a similar sized plasma or LCD television. One disadvantage of the big screen tv’s is still size; even with technological advancements, these models take more room for installation than the flat screen televisions, and are not practical for wall mounting. The ideal viewing angle is only achieved straight on, and in a seated position.

For a true movie theater experience at home, a front projection tv may be a good choice. This is a two piece system consisting of a projector and a screen. They offer picture sizes up to 300″, and do not include any type of tv tuner, instead displaying signals from a satellite receiver or cable box. The best viewing experience with a front projection setup requires a fairly dark environment, and is definitely not for everyone. However, for cinema lovers, there is no better way to bring your favorite film to life. Pricing for good projectors starts at just under $1000, and screen prices vary according to size, with most models falling somewhere between $300 and $1500.

Whether you watch mainly sporting events, movies, or dvd’s, a modern television can give new life to your favorite programming. As technology advances at an astonishing pace, prices for larger and more sophisticated television sets continue to come down. If you do some shopping online and find that you can’t quite afford the tv that you want, save money for five to six months; no matter how much or how little you are able to save, chances are you will be able to afford the set you want as prices come down. Just don’t blow the money you have saved - you might need to build a new room to house the larger set you will be buying in two years.
